# How can I import photos from https://wordpress.org/photos/?

Under <https:> More and more photos are being collected that you can use in your own projects without worrying about licenses. With the "External Files for the Media Library" plugin, you can also import these into your own project. The steps to do so are described below.

## Introduction

The project at `https://wordpress.org/photos/` does not offer its own API for importing images. However, it is a WordPress site with a publicly accessible REST API. And through this API, you can find all the images stored there.

You could now retrieve the entire directory at once, but that would a) be confusing and b) result in endless loading times to load the directory completely. My recommendation would be to first consider exactly which photos from the directory you need.

## Search by keywords

You can have the REST API search for keywords in the files. The results would then only include matching files. An example would be searching for files with the keyword "Germany":

```
https://wordpress.org/photos/wp-json/wp/v2/media?search=germany
```

This would allow you to list many files and import them.

## Search for specific files

You can also search in advance for a specific file that you want to import individually. To do this, go to its detail page and look at the URL. Example:

```
https://wordpress.org/photos/photo/6906906198/
```

The numbers at the end `6906906198` are the image ID. You can now search for it:

```
https://wordpress.org/photos/wp-json/wp/v2/media?search=6906906198
```

## Retrieve REST API

To import the desired files into your media library, follow these steps:

1. In your WordPress backend, go to Media > Upload Media > WordPress REST API.
2. Enter the URL you determined as described above into the input field and submit the form.
3. Wait a moment for the data to load.
4. The files will then be displayed, and you can import them with a single click.
