# Is there a size limit for files in the Media Library?

Generally, WordPress itself does not impose a size limit on files in the Media Library. However, limits apply in the following cases:

- The maximum upload size defined by your hosting provider.
- In a multisite installation, the maximum upload size is defined in the site settings.
- The available storage space on the WordPress hosting account.

There are no such limitations when embedding external files using the "External Files in the Media Library" plugin. However, limitations arise from the following factors:

- The available storage space on your WordPress hosting if you use the plugin’s proxy for all files (by default, it’s only for images).
- The available storage space on the external source where you store your files.
- The bandwidth of your WordPress hosting’s server connection, as well as that of the external source, should not be too low for the initial transfer.
