# Why can't I unzip a ZIP file?

The "External Files in the Media Library" plugin allows you to unzip ZIP files within the media library. This saves the files contained in the ZIP file to the media library. You can select individual files or the entire ZIP file.

To unzip a ZIP file, the following requirements must be met:

- Under Settings > External Files in the Media Library, ZIP files must be enabled as allowed file types.
- The ZIP file must be marked as an external file but must be stored locally as such. External files that are not hosted locally cannot be unpacked. After unpacking, you are welcome to delete the file or move it to an external location.
