Unpacking files in the media library

The plugin offers several ways to open ZIP files, both individually and completely.

Preparation for handling ZIP files

By default, uploading ZIP files is not permitted in WordPress. However, you can change this by going to Settings > External files in media library and selecting „ZIP“ in the selection field for file types. Save - done.

Open the external ZIP file and unpack it in the media library

For this method, you do not have to explicitly activate ZIP files for the media library, as described above. You just have to go the following way:

1. Go to Media > Add external file > ZIP.
2. Enter the URL of the ZIP file in the input field, e.g. https:://example.com/packed.zip.
3. Click on „Use this file“ and then wait until the file and its contents have been loaded.

As soon as the file is loaded, you have the following options:

• Extract a single file from the ZIP into your media library by clicking on the „Import“ button on the file.
• Extract all files from the ZIP into your media library by clicking on „Extract current directory into media library“.

With both methods, depending on your settings, the Dialog for importing files and confirm it. Go through this and confirm your details. The selected files are then unpacked from the ZIP and imported into your media library.

Open and unzip the ZIP file in the media library

If you have not already done so, you must upload a ZIP file to the media library. You can achieve this in several ways:

• Under Media > Add media file, upload a ZIP file from your local computer in the usual WordPress way. Please note the following:
  • The file size is limited by your hosting and/or WordPress.
  • You must enable the upload of ZIP files in WordPress, see note above.
• Under Media > Add media file, you can also enter an external URL that you want to integrate into your media library. Here you only need to note that ZIP files are released as described above. There are no fixed size limits.

As soon as the ZIP file is visible in your media library, you have 2 new options:

• „Unpack file“ - unpacks the file completely into the media library. Only the files that are permitted according to the plugin settings are unpacked.
• „Open file“ - opens the ZIP file for viewing. This allows you to choose which files you want to extract from it.
