Integrate files from the local server

The „External files in the media library“ plugin allows you to use files from various external sources, e.g. from the server on which WordPress itself is installed. How to do this is described below.

List and import files

1. Go to Media library > Add external files > Local server
2. Wait until the list has loaded and then select the files you want to use in the media library.

Restrictions

Only files outside the WordPress installation are listed in the above way. It is not possible to access files within wp-admin, wp-content or wp-includes to access. There are 2 reasons for this:

• Loading all WordPress directories could lead to long loading times, as they consist of a large number of individual files.
• If you were to import files from the upload directory, this would lead to chaos in the media library, as files would then exist multiple times and would reference each other.

As is usual with each of these directory views, you will only be shown files that you can use as files in the media library based on the settings in your WordPress. Files that are not permitted are not even displayed.
