The „External files in the media library“ plugin allows you to use files from various external sources, such as videos from YouTube. How to do this is described below.
A note in advance
Thanks to the plugin, it is possible to store the URLs of YouTube videos in the media library. However, neither WordPress itself nor the vast majority of PageBuilders can handle this. The reason for this is that it is just a URL and YouTube video output requires more than just that.
For this reason, the plugin also includes an extension for the Block Editor and for Elementor, which means that YouTube URLs stored in this way could at least be used there.
Access the videos
Prerequisite
- You need an API token and the channel ID of your YouTube channel.
- You need the plugin „External files in the media library“.
Establish connection
- In your WordPress backend, go to Media library > Add external files > YouTube.
- Now enter both the API token and the channel ID in the form.
- Connect yourself.
Import videos
After connecting, the videos from your channel will be displayed as a list. Don't be surprised: these are their internal names on YouTube, which you will find there in their public URL. Select which video you want to import and click on its import button. You will then find it as an entry in the media library.
